Mohawk Valley Club Meets Out in the Country…
Summer evenings are some of the best things about summertime in central New York. Taking advantage of one of those a beautiful summertime evenings, the Mohawk Valley Club met on Wednesday, August 11th on the Wightman Family Farm, 6993 Norton Avenue in Clinton. N.Y. 13323. The meeting theme of “Bring a guest, eat some ice-cream and have fun” was very fitting for the occasion and the venue.
Club President Troy Bishop opened the meeting by providing the many guest with an overview of the Toastmasters program. “We are all about learning and helping each other overcome the fear of public speaking” said bishop, and the cows and calves looked on from the pasture across the street.
Following the opening remarks by Bishop, Greg Karl led the Table Topics portion of the meeting, assisted by Word Watcher Brad Murdock. “Table topics is all about helping members hone their impromptu speaking skills” says Karl. “Impromptu speaking in probably the most important component of public speaking…being able to think and speak on your feet can really impress an audience”.
The meeting featured prepared speeches by club members Jean Desulme (“Distracted Driving”), and Troy Bishop (“the Benefits of being an Agricultural Toastmaster”), plus an address from Nicole Head, the reigning Madison Co. Dairy Princess.
The meeting attracted a number of guests, including Robin Fitch from West Windfield, NY. “This was my first Toastmasters meeting, and I thought it was excellent” commented Fitch. It was also Sue Parker’s first visit to a toastmaster’s meeting. “I’ve always heard how supporting their learning program is” said Parker. “I think it’s a great organization and I’m considering joining”.
With the cows looking on, the Club celebrated its “meeting in the country” by enjoying refreshments and ice cream cake following the meeting.
